My information report about the red sand stormy planet Mars

In Week 5 of Term 2 our class focussed on how to write great information reports.
We wrote about the planet Mars as we are in the middle of learning about Planet Earth and Beyond. Learning how to write a great information report will help us with our self-guided topics in a few weeks time.
Here is my writing, after I have self-assessed and peer-assessed my work.

My Information Report Success Criteria:
Self
Peer
My heading:

  • is an interesting title (I might have phrased the title as a question.)

My opening paragraph:

  • says what my report is about in a clear way

  • gives a general “classification” – and maybe a technical classification

  • outlines the main features of the subject

My main paragraphs:

  • have sub-headings where helpful

  • have clear topic sentences  (topic and main point)

  • are organised so that each paragraph is about a different aspect of the subject

  • give detailed information (factual descriptions)

  • include specific, technical vocabulary

  • are generally balanced (have a similar amount of detail about the different aspects I write about)

  • may have helpful: tables, pictures and/or diagrams to add information

My end paragraph:

  • draws the report together/sums up my main points

  • may give a personal opinion; ask the reader a question and/or tell the reader where further information may be found

An information report about the red dust storm planet Mars.
Opening Paragraph
Have ever wonder what it’s like on mars? Well heres 2 little fun facts about the red planet Mars. Mars is the 4th planet in our solar system. Also the planet Mars is named after the Roman greek god of war Mars.
Body Paragraphs
SURFACE FEATURES FOR MARS:
Mars is a lifeless planet because no living being hasn’t been there or anything (only dirt, mountain and the biggest volcano lives there too.) Mars doesn’t have any water only ice and desires because it’s a dry planet and also its like venus how its got lots of volcanoes that sprays but instead it’s caused by asteroids and meteorites. But also it has lot of sandstorms that happen and can actually blind you. But not living being like us humans can go as far to mars so people made drones to go to mars.

Why Humans can’t live on mars?:

Well one reason is that there’s only little oxygen on Mars and the air on Mars is carbon dioxide. That the first reason but there’s still more to go. Another reason is that you can get skin cancer from Mars because it’s not like earth how its got the invisible force field from getting the UV rays away from us so we don’t get skin cancer. Also at night time at mars it’s so cold it's like a ice cube just bigger so you’ll freeze to death. Even though at night time it’s freezing cold at day time it kind of warm because Mars is like antarctica how cold its is and how hot mars can get is 20 degrees and how how cold is -150 degrees. So thats just my reason why humans can’t live on Mars. Also it only takes 6 months to get to mars so thats the bad thing but the good thing is thats you can eat lots of space food in the ship.

Mars’ moons?:

Mars’ is the only planet that has two moons (Named Phobos and Deimos.) Mars’ moons are not the same, One is bigger than the other one ( Phobos is bigger than Deimos.) Now that we know that mars has two moons maybe our moon is bigger than Mars’ moons?
ending Paragraph:
Now that I’ve told you some facts about Mars I hope these body paragraphs and introduction know a little bit about Mars the red planet and this is a website that I think will help you if you’re making a information report about Mars too http://easyscienceforkids.com/all-about-Mars/. I hope you good luck in your information report.

  1. Bonjour Hati,

Thank you for sharing your learning about Mars. You have included such great facts!

    Your next learning steps:
    1) Using formal language - remember that this is a piece of formal writing and it is different to just a verbal conversation.
    2) Reading over your work and making sure it makes sense. Proofreading is an important part of writing and will help you to become a better writer.
